Food Service Worker

Major Duties:Theselecteeserves as a Food Service Workerin Nutrition and Food Service. The selectee will be responsible for,but not limited to performing the following duties:

*Distributes and collects selective menus insuring that selections are accurate for prescribed diets.

*Completes all diet changes for patients, making adjustments as needed on basic diets, such as regular, soft, sodium restricted, diabetic, liquid or similar diets, which are routinely ordered.

*Makes final check of diet trays in deliver carts to insure patient receives the correct diet or that NPO orders have the trays pulled.

*Stocks Centralized Cold Tray Line with itemsand replenishes tray as needed.

*Provides a variety of food service, cleaning and sanitation duties.

Work Schedule:5:30am - 2:00pm or 11:00am - 7:30pm, with Rotating Tour of Duty to include weekends/Holidays

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidencewhich demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C ( www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c ).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is Ability to do the work of a WG-04 Food Service Worker without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements:

1. Technical Practices of Food Service Work (theoretical, precise, artistic)

2.Ability to use and maintain to use and maintain cooking and serving tools

3. Work Practices, cleanliness, Neatness and sanitation

4. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints)

PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS:The position requires performance of work which involves frequent lifts or moves of objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Long periods of standing and/or walking on tile floors, frequent bending, pulling, pushing, reaching and stooping. Selectee may be required to perform heavy work such as pushing cart used for unloading, storing, and delivering supplies and supplements, scouring and scrubbing large-size pots, pans and cooking utensils, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in the main kitchen, which is well lit and exposed to high temperatures and humidity due to steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment. There is exposure to noise, fumes, and odors from cooking anddishwashing equipment. There isextreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezers. There is danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been spilled. Exposure to hot liquids, knives and cutting blades, and hot working surfaces.
